Picked up a M91/30 Mosin Nagant on black Friday! It is a used Russian Sniper/Infantry gun from WW2. First thing I had to do is get all the cosmoline off it with a steam gun the strip the stock of all the old shellac and cosmoline... I thin stained it with a red mahogany and put 3 coats of polycoat on it (all Minwax products)! Came out great and I took it out shooting yesterday and the thing about ripped my arm off!! I think it still has some gunk in the rifling and it is causing some excessive back pressure.. I may have to have it professionally cleaned and possibly counter bored. I am going to build a modern sporting/ Sniper rifle out of this gun. I am going aim for this setup (synthetic stock, scope + mount and bent bolt to clear scope, Bipod, sling, flame suppressor, ammo butt stock holder and a adjustable trigger. Also plan on removing front and back site ti give it a clean look.. Pillar bedding the new stock and having the barrel resurfaced and re blued (it has machine marks from the lath a sign of rushed production... I know this kinda kills the history of it but I will not ever sell it and I just like shooting old guns but it is nice to blend the 2 times together... plus this gun is a very common gun with nothing special other than all the numbers match.. considering these guns cost 80 bucks or less I may pick up a few more down the road also! Well tell me what you think!
