These are the safety rules specified by Longmont for all Adopt-a-Park / Friends of the Greenways efforts!
1. Keep children within your supervision at all times. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult in order to avoid dangerous situations.
2. Please leave pets at home. While working, it is difficult to provide a pet with adequate supervision. Danger to your pet and to the public can be avoided by respecting this rule.
3. Keep filled trash bags off trails and walkways. Place bags in shoulder area of trails or adjacent to walkways. Also, remember that a Parks & Forestry Division truck will be picking up bags, so bring them as close to an accessible point as possible and put them in groups.
4. Notify the Longmont Police Department immediately in case of emergency. Dial 911 for emergency or 303-651-8555 for non-emergencies.
5. Please be courteous to park and trail users. If a park or trail user is being discourteous and creating problems, please notify the Police Department immediately. Do not try to take the law into your own hands .
6. Dress appropriately for the weather and the park or trail area you will be working in. Gloves, long sleeves, pants, sunscreen, hats or boots may be necessary for your safety and comfort. Bring plenty of liquids and any refreshments your group may need for a productive and, above all, enjoyable day.
7. Many of our park sites and Greenway corridors are also wildlife habitats. Act responsibly by recognizing the potential dangers of wild animals. Do not approach wildlife. If a wild animal is encountered, remain still and calm or back away to avoid confrontation. It is our goal to preserve our wild friends homes, food sources and territory.
8. Enjoy yourselves! Volunteering to the community is a valuable contribution. Longmont is proud to have involved and dedicated citizens who are willing to make the difference!
